CONCUSSION HEALING

CONCUSSION HEALING

Bear in mind that head is one of the parts that are responsible for one of the most important things – the brain. Therefore, you should try to be safe when doing something that might put your head at risk. One of the injuries that are most common in a brain is a concussion. A concussion is considered as a traumatic brain injury that has huge effects on your brain function.  Most of the effects caused by concussion are temporary. These effects include headaches and problems related to concentration, focus, balance, memory, and coordination.

Most of the cases regarding concussion are due to light or heavy blow to the head. This is a common scene actually in any movies or dramas. The main character’s sweetheart suffered a heavy damage to the head and loss the memories between them. Besides, by shaking the head and the body violently may also lead to concussions. There are also some cases where the concussions will cause you to lose consciousness as well as cases where one has a concussion but does not realize it. It is also particularly common for those who are playing sports such as American football, rugby, football and other contact sports.

Concussion healing is the process of recovering from a concussion. There are a few things to consider before deciding which treatment that is most suitable to be performed. The things are as follow:

When are you supposed to see a doctor for treatment?

When you or any of your family members, friends or anyone who experience a head injury, that is the time where you are supposed to see a doctor immediately. Based on the recommendation from The American Academy of Pediatrics, you should call your child’s doctor whenever anything that is more than a light bump on your child’s head.  You need to always be aware of any changes that might happen even if your child does not show any signs of a serious head injury. The same goes for others. If they remain alert, can move normally and respond to you, it shows that they are alright and the injury is not too serious. If they want to sleep, you can just let them sleep.

Perform or find emergency care for an adult or child who is experiencing a head injury.

Besides that, you should also seek emergency care for those that experience head injury as well as showing these symptoms:

  • Losing consciousness for more than half a minute
  • Worse headache over time
  • Repeated vomiting
  • Behavioural change
  • Started to negate in coordination, mainly in physical coordination such as stumbling
  • Started to get confused and disoriented in things such as having a hard time to recognize something or someone
  • Changes in speech

There are also a few other symptoms such as:

  • Seizures
  • Disturbance on vision and eyes such as dilated pupils which is the condition where the pupils are bigger than normal.
  • Prolong dizziness
  • Having difficulties with the mental function or physical coordination
  • Big head bumps or bruises on areas other than the forehead in children or infants that are below the age of 12 months

In conclusion, the knowledge regarding this should be learned by all since it is crucial as most of us will experience having children. Children have a higher tendency of injuring their heads as they are more active and tend to do more dangerous actions out of curiosity. Therefore, as parents, we need to know on how to deal with the situation if this ever happened.
